On Saturday July 11, 2026, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Levittown-Island Trees Post 9592 and its Auxiliary participated in the annual Lazy Days of Summer event hosted by the Levittown Community Council at Levittown's East Village Green
The day started at 9:30am at the Post as the Communities Activities Officer staged all items needed to bring to the event. Assisted by the Post Commander, they loaded the van with tables, chairs, flags, poppies, games and learning material for kids and recruiting material for prospective members into the Post's van.
Upon arrival at Levittown's East Village Green members of the Post met with the Post's Auxiliary and proceeded to set up their station.
During the day members of the Post and Auxiliary distributed poppies, provided educational material on the U.S. flag and Pledge of Allegiance, displayed information on VFW Scholarship Programs, created patriotic art pieces and had various games available for the kids to play. Members of the Post and Auxiliary also took the opportunity to introduce many visitors to the VFW and Auxiliary.
The Post's and Auxiliary's event station was visited by local elected officials including Town of Hempstead Supervisor John Ferretti, New York State Senator Steve Rhoads, New York State Assemblyman John Mikulin, Nassau County Legislators Tom McKevitt and Kayla Knight and former Town of Hempstead Supervisor and current Town Clerk Kate Murray.
VFW Post 9592, and its Auxiliary, leadership stated that they were grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this community event and would like to thank all guests and visitors who stopped by to show support for local Veterans by participating in the Buddy Poppy program.
