Post 9592 conducted their 2022-23 Patriot’s Pen, Voice of Democracy and
Smart/Maher National Citizens Education Teacher Award Presentation Ceremony on
Friday March 10th at the Post. In attendance were local school
officials, elected officials, parents and guests of the awardees, Post members
and members of the Auxiliary
VFW
Post 9592 presented close to three thousand dollars in scholarships to
students, in both middle school and high school, whose written essays and, in
the case of high school students, audio recording of those essays, that were
judged to be the best among all other entries.
VFW
post 9592 also recognized one teacher for promoting citizenship education in the
classroom and in the school:
Post
Commander, Kevin Vargas-Colon and Post Auxiliary President, Frances Inslee
presented certificates and scholarships to the awardees that were present.
The
first-place scholarship award for both the Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy
were presented in memory of PFC Thomas J Nogan Sr, US Army

year, because of a scoring tie, the Post recognized two third place winners.
