On Saturday April 20, 2024, members from VFW Post 9592 and its Auxiliary joined with other community groups to participate in the Levittown Community Council's Annual Earth Day Community Wide Clean-up.
After signing in with the Community Council at Levittown's Veterans Memorial Park and acquiring trash pickers, garbage bags and rakes, members of the Post headed up to the large field that sits adjacent to the Post building to begin their clean-up.
A portion of the field itself is part of a Long Island Railroad right-of-way where the old Central Railroad use to run. It is now used by PSE&G for their overhead powerlines and by dog walkers, joggers, bike riders and neighborhood kids who like to play ball.
Starting from Strawberry Lane, the Post members began their walk eastward picking up various types of garbage, trash and debris that had accumulated there over the course of the winter.
At the end of the field clean-up, the Post members collected enough trash to fill three large garbage bags.
The members of the Post were happy to participate in this event and were glad that their time and energy went to providing a clean and safe outdoor area for their neighbors to enjoy.
